WETFLEX BREAKS LANDMARK 500M PRINTING TARGET

DÜSSELDORF, GERMANY- June 4, 2008 - Sun Chemical and Comexi Group are celebrating after crashing through a landmark target of 500metres per minute with WetFlex™ printing. This breakthrough proprietary technology, which has been developed in a partnership between Sun Chemical, Energy Sciences Inc (ESI) and Comexi, is being shown in public for the first time at drupa.

WetFlex delivers wet-on-wet flexographic printing and is designed to meet the needs of the flexible packaging market for improved print quality, efficiency, and low environmental impact. WetFlex uses new generation energy curable ink technology specially developed and patented by Sun Chemical for the process.

Ignacio Fernandez, of Comexi (Hall 10, Stand C62), said: “We are thrilled. We have achieved 500metres per minute. There are samples available for viewing on both Comexi and at Sun Chemical’s stand (Hall 6, Stand B75). There has been tremendous interest in this ‘green’ technology – visitors should see for themselves at our demonstrations on our stand each day at 11.30am and 3.30pm.”

Björn Heilhecker, of Sun Chemical, said: “People from all over the world have been showing massive interest and are amazed at the quality of printing - both at the demonstrations and by a close examination of the samples available at the stand. It is all part of our commitment to working for the customer and demonstrating market leadership.”

At drupa, the inks are being wet trapped using Comexi’s new iF2 Icube concept Central Impression (CI) cylinder press and cured instantly by exposure to ESI’s EZCure-DF EB in-line electron beam, which has been installed in an innovative ‘short  web path’ press layout. It fits in perfectly with Comexi’s slogan at drupa, ‘Ready for the Future’.

Under the theme “Working for You”, Sun Chemical, a PrintCity alliance member, produces a range of innovative printing inks, pigments and coatings solutions for the whole packaging market.  These include flexo, gravure, energy curable, digital and offset inks as well as broader industry workflow solutions including SmartColour™ colour management solutions, brand protection, FastJet® digital presses and new functional barrier coating technologies.
